Do you remember last Spring I have vowed to incorporate more healthy smoothies into my diet, well unfortunately that crashed and burned sometime last summer. The truth is I was consuming the same smoothie all the time and I simply got tired of drinking them, then eventually forgot about making them. Then resorted to my usual, not eating breakfast, drinking tea, cereal or a granola bar. Thrilling I know.
This winter I opted out of getting the flu shot and let me be completely honest; it is the best decision I have made. Literally last winter I was sick with a cold every other week, I wish I was exaggerating on that; but I was constantly sick. If I remember correctly the news last year was stating that a certain percentage of people that received the flu shot; that it was defective. Once I got my flu shot last year that is all I heard, and was sick constantly.
I was so miserable, and thankfully this winter I only had one cold (KNOCK ON WOOD…FINGERS & TOES CROSSED AND A FEW HAIL MARYS).
Since option out of the flu shot this year, I personally feel better, but I have been seeking out many different ways on keeping the flu and germs away from Sophia and I this year.
One thing that has helped SO MUCH for Sophia and I is Jenna Dewan’s Green Smoothie. I came across her video one night when I couldn’t sleep, and she swears by her daily smoothie. So I figured that Sophia and I would give it a whirl and see how it goes.
**I did altered the recipe a tad**
2 cups water
Handful of romaine lettuce
Handful of spinach –
2 stalks of celery, chopped –
1/2 cucumber, chopped –
1 apple, quartered –
1 banana, chopped
1 pear, quartered
1 lemon, squeezed
¼ cup spirulina powder
I chopped up my veggies and cup up my fruit. I did not have Pear at hand, and I really wish I did because Pear is one of my favorite fruits to eat. I did however replace it with some Blueberries and Strawberries.
I also did not have Spirulina Powder on hand so I omitted it from the recipe. Since I am into healthy smoothies I am noticing Spirulina Powder is a healthy superfood and many healthy smoothie makers swear by it.
It will most likely be a purchase in the future!
The first step was I added about a cup of COLD water then my Romaine Lettuce, Cucumbers, Celery, Banana, Apple (Pink lady Apples), Strawberries and Blueberries. Finished it with a cup of COLD water.
Then blended this bad boy up!
I ended up with a left over Green Smoothie, and placed the rest in the fridge. Sophia really enjoyed it, but was not hesitant to tell me she wanted more fruit in it…Bananas specifically.
Come summer I am anxious to get fresh fruit from the farmers market, and try different variations of this smoothie. One main upside that I like is that if you have picky eaters this is a great way to incorporate more veggies into their diets. Thankfully Sophia is like me, we love vegetables so this is perfect.
I use this this Ninja Smoothie Maker and it’s on SALE TOO! This blender blends everything up really quickly…no chucks..it’s perfect!
Do you have a favorite smoothie that you drink daily or even weekly.
Please share with Sophia and I.
We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
