All-Natural Deodorant Research

Natural Deodorant 1

One thing in life I think that everyone has in common that we all wear deodorant on a regular basis. For as long as I can remember, I have always been a deodorant fanatic, there may have been a few times in the past where I have forgotten to put it on. It was an awful feeling, I felt naked. My fear growing up was smelling and it still is.

I know if I was stranded on an island one product that would come with me would be deodorant. Weird?

Although deodorant has been such an importance in my life for as long as I can remember and an important step in my daily routine, I never gave it any consideration..

What is exactly in deodorant? What is the difference between regular deodorant that is sold at local groceries stores vs. all natural deodorant? Is it worth spending more money on all-natural deodorant ?

Natural Deodorant 3

While Sophia and I were vacationing in Hawaii last month I was contacted by a group of researchers that tested 23 different formulas to find their top all-natural deodorants that is available to consumers.

Here are their findings on all natural deodorants

Natural Deodorant 2

After I read the article, I was surprised by how much I did not know about deodorant. It’s incredible. I admit that when I shop for deodorant at the grocery store it isn’t all-natural, it’s whats on sale and what smells the best, but I never put into consideration what I am applying under arms.

Now I am definitely rethinking about my deodorant choices and thinking about something more natural and healthier for myself.

One interesting fact is that I did no know that Coconut Oil is a natural odor eliminator. Who knew?

So, if you are in the market for a natural deodorant this summer, please take the time read their all natural deodorant findingsbecause it will help you narrow down what  are the best all-natural deodorants to consider purchasing. Especially if you are new to all-natural deodorants and don’t know where to begin.

And the Winner is….

PicMonkey Collage-6-4

So today is the big day! I’m answering all of your giveaway questions! There was quite a response and some pretty great questions asked! I will announce the winner of the Pearl Necklace after I answer your questions first.

1. What’s my favorite place to go with Sophia? Around Pittsburgh I would have to say the park. Sophia is very “outdoorsy,” where as I am not as much. She loves playing with flowers and other children. It’s so amazing to watch her grow up and explore her surroundings, but if I’m not in Pittsburgh, I will say my favorite place to go with her is the beach. Sophia loves the water and is very comfortable with it.

2. What is my favorite movie? I actually don’t have a favorite movie, but one movie that I can watch over and over again is The American President with Annette Bening and Michael Douglas. Such a great Sunday movie.

3. What are my favorite crafts to do with Sophia? And favorite Spring crafts? I am honestly not much of a ‘crafter,’ it’s not that I don’t like to do them…I am always so busy. Sophia and I enjoy baking and cooking together…she is my little helper in the kitchen. I let her pour and mix different things. My favorite Spring craft if you consider it a craft is planting flowers with Sophia. At Target in their dollar section they had a kids gardening shovel and these little flowers you plant in a egg carton…I grabbed a few and we still yet have to plant them. Maybe later this week we will. If you aren’t a ‘crafter’ or don’t have the time allow your kids to help you in the kitchen…as long as its safe. You can always search Pinterest for ideas….Pinterest is amazing.

4. What makes me blush? I found this to be the most interesting question, because honestly what doesn’t make me blush? It’s not hard to make me blush, but what makes me bush most are dirty jokes….

5. Do I prefer sunsets or sunrises? I love a sunset! To me nothing beats a sunset!

6. What’s my favorite vacation spot? Where do I go? What do I do? My favorite vacation spot is Hawaii…I love the atmosphere and the water. Besides Hawaii I love Myrtle Beach, SC and Cape May, New Jersey. I am a traveller so I will basically go anywhere. My dream vacation is Turks & Caicos. When I am at the beach you won’t find me laying out, I am usually chasing after Sophia. Prior to kids you wouldn’t find me laying out still…I find it quite boring. I really enjoy water sports such as Snorkeling, Paddle Boarding, kayaking on the ocean. And of course looking for seashells.

7. What do you find the hardest part about divorce and being a single parent? Divorce is hard in general, no matter who initiates the divorce. With my divorce I was the one the told Adrian that I wanted a divorce. It was one of the hardest words that ever had to come out of my mouth, it’s words that I never ever intended on saying. Not alone get a divorce. When someone decides divorce is the best option you’re giving up that dream you had with that person and giving up all the plans you may have had for the future. For Adrian and I it was having more babies, building a home and just being a family. Another hard aspect is when the other party has moved on and you haven’t. Even though you initiated the divorce the worst feeling in the world is when the other party doesn’t fight for you and just lets you walk away. Maybe sometimes all it takes it a little bit of a initiation from the other person, but when it doesn’t happen and they do everything in the world to see another person…time away from seeing their own child, that’s what hurts the most. When you were supposed to have meant “the world,” to that person but they move on and walk away so easily without hesitation. It’s knowing that you weren’t worth fighting for. Another thing is dating, I am not dating anyone and I have no intention in dating anyone for a while. I mean I am not even divorced yet, plus I am not ready to date. It will take someone quite special for me to date them. I have been through hell for several years and dating just seems unappealing right now. I am still mourning my marriage. Plus, Sophia is the most important person in the world to me and to bring a stranger into her life isn’t going to happen. One thing I know for sure is in the future when I decide to date, that person won’t meet her until I feel things are going good and I feel comfortable enough. I refuse to have different people come in and out of her life. It’s not fair to her.

As for as being a single mom, I have been doing that for quite sometime so that wasn’t hard getting used too. There are some aspects that make it hard is your entire life is wrapped around theirs 100% of the time. Meaning you hardly get any down time for yourself. When you have kids your life completely changes as the way it should; they should be number one. Nothing and no one should ever come before them. For some people that is what happens and others it doesn’t.

Divorce isn’t easy. It’s not romantic as some movies may portray it..and it doesn’t always end with that one person coming after you and you living happily ever after. Divorce is messy…Divorce is letting go of someone that you never really wanted too..

8. Who is your favorite actress? I have always loved Drew Barrymore!

9. What is your dream job? Blogging has brought me so much joy in the last year and I have met so many fantastic bloggers that I have been completely blown away by their generosity and positivity. I would love if my blogging turned into a job where I would have the ability to work from home so I can raise my daughter. I love traveling so much, so if somehow I can incorporate blogging and traveling together that would be ideal. My goal is to show Sophia the world and hope she loves to travel as much as I do…because I have that gypsy blood in me.

10. What is hidden talent? I am really good with knots….knots in jewelry..basically any kind of knot. I can get something untangled in no time, it’s a really weird talent that has served it’s purpose in the last 29 years of existence.

Okay onto the real reason why you guys are here!!!!!

The winner of the Hawaiian Pearl Necklace is……drum roll please…..

Crissie Woolard!!! I will be contacting you soon!

Thank you everyone that has entered into this giveaway! I hope you have an amazing day!

Summer Salad

I enjoy trying new recipes especially for summer, there seem to be more of a variety of fall and winter foods than summer foods.

By the end of May, I am so over the usual hamburger and hot dog ordeal…that even suggesting it for dinner becomes and instant no. Can anyone else relate?

Last week when I was browsing Chip and Joanna’s Magazine Magnolia I found a recipe in there that I had to try with the grilled chicken breasts we were having for dinner.

Luck must have been on my side, because the only item I did not have on had was the corn on the cob. So I ran up the street to Aldi’s and grabbed them.

Magnolia’s Summer Salad:

6 Ears Corn, Raw, cut from ears

2 Cucumbers, diced

4 Peppers, red, yellow, or orange, diced

1 pint grape tomatoes, halved

1 bunch fresh dill, chopped

1 bunch fresh basil, chopped

8 oz. feta, crumbled

Salt and Pepper to taste

  1. Combine all the ingredients and adjust the herbs, salt and pepper to taste. It gets better the longer is sits. So make it up in the morning to serve for dinner later that day.

I decided to pick the orange peppers, mainly because of the color. Plus I believe the yellow peppers are one of the sweeter ones compared to the green pepper.

Shucking the corn and removing the corn off the cob had to be one of the most annoying parts of making this salad. Silk went everywhere, it didn’t matter how careful I was…it went everywhere!!!

When I started removing the corn off the cob…the corn was I swear jumping off the cob and landing everywhere except inside the bowl. They were like little bouncy balls jumping all over the place! So frustrating.

Sophia found it quite amusing and Jimmy was at my feet trying to eat them as they landed.

And I believe I was muttering to myself “these little bastards,” in the faintest voice ever..because I have a sponge for a daughter!

Those 6 cobs were never ending…..

Ahh the cucumber….Sophia loves cucumber. When she was in KDO I used to slice her up cucumber in her lunch. She always ate them all. This was by bar the nicest thing to chop. I didn’t peel it…should I have? I don’t believe it really made a different.

Do you peel or not peel your cucumber for a salad? Any thoughts?

Do you like Grape Tomatoes? I actually don’t care for them, they are my least favorite tomato out there. Now if this recipe called for Beefsteak Tomatoes I would be all over them like white on rice! I wonder if we are going to grow them this year in the garden?

God knows we will have Grape Tomatoes….

Do you chiffonade your herbs? You should! Grab em’…roll em’ up..the best you can…and start cutting them rolled up. Makes life a lot easier and creates half the mess.

Then sprinkles those bad boys all over your veggies.

This salad wouldn’t be complete unless you had cheese…right? I mean who doesn’t like cheese. How some people feel about bacon…is how I feel about cheese.

You. Can’t. Go. Wrong.

With bacon you can…wait did I just say that?

You bet I did. I not much of a bacon kinda gal.

Oh yeah…that’s what I am talking about.

Come. To. Mama.

Mix it up and let it marinate while you live out the rest of your day!

I am a ‘marinator,’ is that even a word? If I am preparing dinner everything marinates practically all day. Especially my chicken….I will never prepare chicken for dinner without it marinating for about 6 to 7 hours.

Marinating chicken is another blog post…I mean I am really particular. I can tell if chicken has been marinated vs. not been marinated and you just slapped that sucker on the grill and called it dinner….mama is picky with chicken.

I guess I am a chicken snob…what can I say….I only trained at Le Cordon Bleu!

This salad turned out to be a great addition to my 7 hour marinated grilled chicken breasts that was served for dinner that night! Sophia killed it! She really seemed to have enjoyed this summer salad…..she asked for “more peas.”

*Left over tip: Make Chicken and Veggie Quesadillas out of the remaining grilled chicken and salad! Complete with Sour Cream of course! *

Hawaiian Pearls Giveaway!

My birthday is right around the corner…May 23rd…I am ringing in the big 29 this year! So, I think this is a perfect opportunity to do a Giveaway!

When I was in Hawaii I fell in love with a string of multi-colored Fresh Water Pearls. Pearls happen to be one of my favorite kinds of jewelry to wear! I always thought they were beautiful and classic, I mean you honestly can’t go wrong with them!

I am a jewelry kind-of-girl….I just flat out love jewelry! Pearls are a staple in my jewelry collection. I wear them when I am going out wearing a fancy dress or if I am wearing leggings and a t-shirt. They can dress up any outfit! It’s kind of like wearing bold lipstick…just adds a bit of fun!

With the summer months just around the corner, these pearls are perfect for any occasion! Or give them to that someone special! Growing up, my grandma always told me that buying yourself pearls will give you bad luck. Have you ever heard of that?

When I mentioned it to a little jewelry store in Hawaii (I will elaborate of the store in a later post), the woman I was speaking too never heard of that superstition. BUT her employee did say that back in the day, I imagine 1900’s or earlier that a sign that you were “off the market for courting,” was to wear pearls. If you wore them without being committed to someone you would end up alone. Crazy huh?

There are so many ways your can wear these string of pearls, the woman that sold me them showed me about a thousand different ways to wear them. Like in a knot! That was one of my favorite ways, but I honestly can’t remember how she did it! Youtube will help with that I’m sure!

Okay, are you ready to win some Pearls?

We are Back from Hawaii

Sophia and I are officially back from vacation! Hawaii was absolutely wonderful, definitely a much needed vacation.

Yesterday I spent most of the day getting things back in order; I did two loads of laundry, went to the grocery store, unpacked all of our suitcases, picked up Jimmy from camp….it was our first time home in two weeks, to be honest it was such a long day by the time night came I basically passed out.

Jet lag doesn’t help much either! Hawaii is six hours behind us, so mine and Sophia’s sleep pattern is way off.

Last night Sophia fell asleep at 10 pm for a couple of hours then woke back up around 2am until about 4:30 am. Then fell back to sleep until 12:30 in the afternoon. I am looking forward to getting back to our usual routine!

I have some upcoming posts planned that I can’t wait to share with you!

It all starts tomorrow….

So hang on a little bit longer…I will not disappoint…I promise!
